I was wondering if anyone could recommend a baseline jetting for my combo, IIRC it currently has the 1427 main jet and 1455 rod on the primary side and the same 1427 jet on the secondary side - roughly 4% rich across the board. Combo is 350 chevy in an 83 ex cab S10, 487x heads, rpm intake, ede 1406 carb w/4hole wooden insulator/spacer, ~10:1.

What the difference is that the discharge holes (orifices) are smaller in the 1406 both in the primary and also in the secondary venturies. The air bleeds and idle jets on the venturi clusters are different also. All this rearrangement alters how the jets meter in the carb. Do not try to mimic the 1405 jetting on a 1406.

Take the secondary jets ( should be .095) and move them to the primary spots. Install a .092 in the secondaries. Then use your stock 7547 metering rods with an orange spring under the holder. (buy a spring kit) Turn both idle mixture screw all the way in to seat lightly then open them 1 full turn only. Should be a pretty close start.

I always said those Edelbrock 1406 carbs were jetted for 305's. I had a similar issue with a lean carb. I drove my 78 Seville for 15 years with a nice running Qjet. I always said that carb was jetted perfectly and it always ran excellent. ... (subtract 300 from jet part number to get jet size) and 395 secondary jets. The metering rods were 75/47.

The secondaries are the same size so the 600 is slightly spreadbore and that reduction in primary makes all the difference. With the 750 coming off idle the vacuum would drop so fast that the idle circuit would shut off before the primary picked up. ... The secondaries do not appear to be opening until I get to the max rpm setting, and the boat does not seem to want to rev like it did before. I am assuming I have some sort of an internal jet setting that should be changed out to make things work better. The motors are 327F flywheel aft, with 210-hp.

On my carb 1405 same as a 1406 but without the elec choke (but i added the elec choke to mine) and jetted really fat,, i went with 98 pri jets and 71x47 rods,, i tryed the 73x47 rods,, but it just wont run right.. with the 98 jets and 71x47 rods and the orange 5 spring my air/fuel meter runs going down the road 13.9/14.1/14.2.. idles @ 13.0 and it runs really well now and the mileage went up.
